Understanding the historical background and intertextuality of Tefilat Chana, which is read as part of the haftorah on the first day of Rosh Hashana, adds an additional important level to our personal worship of God on this important day. Chana’s nobility and her beautiful expression of thanks to God in response to her prayer, in contrast to the situation at the time, remain a moral lesson which resonates to our times.
