Description
As we gathered to fondly and lovingly remember ישראל יהודה and איתן איתמר, brothers who were taken much too soon, we revisited one of the oldest Midrashic passages, likely the oldest involving children and parents: The Midrash of the Arba'ah Banim. We explored the textual nuances in the four distinct directives to teach our children about the Exodus, seeing the development of the Midrash through the eyes of the Hakhamim who composed it. We reviewed two texts that likely predated our Haggadah text (Mekhilta and Yerushalmi) noting the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between each of them and then reviewing the familiar text from our Haggadah. This shiur was given at Young Israel of West Hartford, CT.
