Description

Discussion of the historical background of the Gemara's description of the Sanhedrin moving from Jerusalem to Yavneh, and then to Usha, Shefaram, Bet Shearim, Tzipori and Tverya as stages in the exile. Along the way, we talk about churban and rebuilding, the Bar Kokhba rebellion, its failure and effects, and about many of the Tannaim and famous stories we have heard about them, putting it all into context. The shiur was given to participants in Herzog College's worldwide "Rimonim" teacher training program, in preparation for a trip to the Galil during their seminar in Israel.
