ספר המצות הקצר, מצות עשה יח. מצות עשה לירא מן המקדש. שנאמר (ויקרא יט, ל): "ומקדשי תיראו". ובתי כנסיות ובתי מדרשות שלנו, נקראים "בתי מקדש מעט", שנאמר (יחזקאל יא, טז): "ואהי להם למקדש מעט". ויש ליזהר בהם משחוק והיתול ושיחה בטילה, ואין מחשבין בהם חשבונות, ואין ישנים בהם. וקדושתם חמורה מאד. ונוהג בכל מקום ובכל זמן, בזכרים ובנקבות:
