Description

Rava establishes that we don not transport the children from city to city. What is the chidush of Rava? This shiur will explore Rashi's interpretation of Rava, as well as that of Tos' & the Rosh. According to Rashi Rava teaches that Yehoshua ben Gamla guarantees the that each child be taught Torah and every city must provide education for every child. If the child could learn in a different city, without danger, there is no obligation incumbent upon the city. Tos' & the Rosh operate with the premise that there is an absolute obligation on the city to establish a school. The only condition that needs to be met is that there are 25 children in the city. The formulation of the Takana is not identical with the reason for the Takana.
