Description

Would it be permissible to eat chometz that would normally be unfit for human consumption but animals would eat it? Rashi would imply that this is the case of "Chorcho" which is permitted. Tos' says the chometz becomes permitted only if it's inedible for an animal. Perhaps this is a stringency in chometz which the Torah prohibits under "tashbisu". The Rosh goes as far as prohibiting eating chometz even though it is unfit for animal consumption. The Rosh is apparently operating with the principle of "achshevei" which makes it edible for the person who is eating it. The Sfas Emes feels compelled to reinterpret the Rosh as we shall see. Would one be permitted to utilize chometz as fuel as he fulfills tashbisu. R' Dovid has a unique approach
