Description

We will study the sugya in Masechet Shabbat 38b-39a which addresses the issue of bathing and drinking hot water on Shabbat. This issue breaks down into two categories: water heated on Erev Shabbat, and water heated on Shabbat itself. What is the relationship between these two categories? At first glance it would appear that the latter category belongs to the general principle of ma'aseh shabbat. But a deeper look will reveal that water heated on Shabbat belongs to a separate Rabbinic Gezeira. We will look at the implications of this gezeira.
