Description

From the verse "Tishah BaErev", the sugya derives the mitzva of eating on the 9th of Tisrei & the din of tosefet Yom Kippur, i.e. beginning the fast early, before nightfall on leil Yom Kippur. In this shiur we will analyze both of these dinim in light of the Rambam. Why does the Rambam codify the mitzvah of eating on Erev Yom Kippur in Hilchos Nedarim rather than in the laws of Yom Kippur? Why does the Rambam codify the din of Tosefet only with regard to Yom Kippur rather than Shabbos & Yom Tov? And why does the Rambam accept tosefet with regard to Inui but not with regard to Melacha? Why does the sugya require a verse for the night and a verse for the day, since kedushas hayom includes day & night as one indivisible entity?
