Description
Is Shmini Atzeret the last day of Succos or a holiday unto itself? The sugya addresses the question of sitting in the succah on Shmini as well as the issue of reciting birchat ha'zeman on Shmini. What is the status of Yom Tov Sheini with regard to Shmini Atzeret? Why doesn't Shmini Atzeret, as a Regel, nullify Aveilut? We will quote the Rav, zatza"l, who defines three dimentions of Regel which appear in three parshiot in the Torah. In two of three Shmini Atzeret is singled out as an independent Moed. In one of the three, Parshat Re'eh, Shmini is the last day of Succot. The Rav establishes that night follows day re: korbanot & therefore the sugya extends the mitzva of simcha of the last day of Sukkot to the night of Shmini Atzeret.
