Completely identifying myself with my flaws - I'm no good and my whole life is not good. A cheshbon hanefesh (personal accounting) does NOT mean: What's wrong with me! It means: an accurate assessment of ones character flaws AND good traits. Mistakenly allowing "public opinion" to shape my view of myself. How a strong and healthy person reacts to criticism. Using strengths to work on faults - building our inner foundation of pure goodness. We feel like "dying" because of a completely distorted view of ourselves. The joy of Succos - how do we feel about our neshomoh tehorah (pure soul) and our connection to Hashem. After Yom Kippur we have a different perspective of ourselves. Many of the mitzvos (commandments) of Succos deal with yashrus (honestey, being straight). The "ani" (my G-dly essence) is ALWAYS pur and holy. Two ways to rectify the negative view of ourselves.
