Attempts to numb sadness by eating out in restaurants, going to "entertainment" or going shopping... Some people do not look one inch in front of themselves. People are chronically sad or angry. When we let happiness in, then it comes in. Where does sadness come from? Is the neshama sad? The difference between sadness and bitterness. Sadness can only be where the truth of who we are is hidden from ourselves. Universal cause of sadness is caused by being out of touch with ourselves. Sadness of death is because the neshama (soul) separates from the body. More joy in presence of tzaddik. The formula is- more neshama less guf (body) brings more happiness.
