P 173. We can love those who are different from us. Crossing over from loving myself to loving the other. Even a person deserving the death penalty must be loved with ahavas nefesh (soul love) - in a deep way. Why is it that we are so fascinated with death? At our very essence, it is impossible for a human being to kill another. We are often so wrapped up within ourselves that we don't even perceive the hurt our words and actions inflict on another person. There is a human being in even the greatest rashah (wicked person). Perceiving the nefesh and life force in the other. A story about the Satmar Rav's charitable giving. It is impossible to hate someobdy who constantly gives to us, just as it is impossible to hate somebody to whom we always give.
