P. 100. Two parts to our work on our middos (character traits): fixing and straightening out (and these are NOT the same thing). It's different when the character trait (e.g., a positive one) is present, but not working right. Tikkun (fixing) means that something is not working (e.g., my middah of love), that we have to remove the coverings, and then everything will work just fine; I will love Hashem, my spouse, my kids, etc. On the other hand, the middah might be completely revealed but in the wrong places, and thus must be straightened out. When our kiruv work brings us to violate halachah because of our overwhelming love for Jews. When ahavah (love) damages the middos, and is unbalanced between avodas (serving) Hashem and family, or learning and davening (praying), etc.
