P. 110. Purely from an INTELLECTUAL perspective, starting from scratch, the first question would be: "Is there a G-d?" But this is NOT the recommended approach and this is NOT what the RamChal is teaching! Where does the mind begin, and where does the heart begin, and how do parents teach their children? The rishonim's (early halachic deciders) different views. No matter the approach, we ourselves must purify our heart to enable it to receive the information. Intellectual Yiddishkeit is simply not enough. Why can't we remember anything the day after the final? Or, better yet: when do we get to study/learn something that we actually care about? We remember that which we care about. What we have been taught by our parents is not enough (remember that we are still in the RamChal's introduction - he is explaining why we have to learn mussar). We know every detail about what Helen Thomas said, but how much do we know about this week's parshah, about Rashi?
