Description

Page 165. Different ways of working one's way through the midos (traits). Avodah (work) that begins with the intellect, often ends with the intellect and does not reach the soul or effect real personality improvement. Excitement (for example based on something we read) about a midah as the starting point - but still "reporting back" to the intellect. The starting point: A fiery emunah (belief). Who is my boss - Hashem, or my intellect, or someone else? Our grandparents' yiddishkeit was not subject to the intellect's consent. What is in the way of our accepting yiddishkeit? So how do we get to dveykus (attachment to) Hashem? Judaism is built on emunah (belief), not on cold facts. Who do our children trust?
