Description

Page 183. The taanug (pleasure) is the means to get to the tachlis (ultimate purpose), which is dveykus (attachment) to Hashem. The taanug is necessary, but is not the whole picture. The Gra says that most things we do are lo lishma (not purely for the sake of the Hashem), but there is always of spark of lishma (for Hashem's sake) that we can expand upon. We should all try to have a short period of lishma every day. The greatest taanug is dveykus with Hashem. Jews have a natural desire to seek high levels of pleasure. The desire for pleasure comes from the neshama, likened to a princess. Physical pleasure is partial pleasure which eventually disappears.
