Page 199. What is the purpose of life- kirvas (closeness to) Hashem or devykus (cleaving) to Hashem? The purpose of life is to cleave to Hashem. However, Dovid haMelech says that closeness to Hashem is good. We repair our ego by nullifying our material desires by cleaving to Hashem. We align our emotions and thoughts to those of Hashem's. The more we can resemble Hashem in actions, thoughts and words, the closer we come to Hashem. We work on kirvas (coming closer to Hashem)- but only Hashem gives us the present of devykus (cleaving to Him). Prophecy of Moshe was completely clear. and reflected the level of intensity of his connection to Hashem. Where are we going to and where are we coming from? We must beg Hashem to experience the exalted pleasentness of cleaving to Hashem.
