p. 225. When a person attains certain hasagos (spiritual powers), he may mistakenly think that he has reached the ultimate purpose, and he may actually stop growing. How can information possibly bring you to simcha (joy)? There are tzaddikim who do not want spiritual powers. Hashem gives these powers to people so that they can help others. Connecting to the true self, which is grasping and connecting with Hashem's light, brings a person to true and lasting simcha. The ultimate purpose of purifying our heart is to serve Hashem. A person can fall deeper, or can dig and attempt to understand deeper. Life is about constantly wanting to understand more and grow more, and the more we know this, the more it will become clear that the world was created for man's sake.
