p. 242. When a live thing dies, it does not descend to the next level of existence, it just disintegrates. But when a human is spiritually dead while alive, he is lower than the animal. The ohr haganuz (hidden light) rejoiced when Hashem hid it away for the tzadikim. When a rasha (wicked person) has the light, he uses it for his own evil purposes. The ohr haganuz is hidden in the Torah, in which everything can be found. We must know that our actions affect all of the worlds. Through learning the Torah deeply, the tzaddik can access the ohr haganuz and thus see from one end of the world to the other, including the upper worlds.
