Description

p. 258. What does it mean when we point at Hashem in the middle of the circle? The importance of infusing Hashem's name into our Shabbos preparations and into everything we do in this world. Dry land or the ocean - which one is our destination, and how does that relate to this world and the next? The Ramchal's strange comparisons. Living tangibly on dry land (olam hazeh - this world), whereas the ocean (olam habah - the next world) is shapeless and without form. Like preparing a pension-fund for retirement, we "save" our mitzvos (good deeds, commandments) now to have s'char (reward) in the next world; however, what type of input (mitzvos) are we preparing? The reward is in a completely different category from the mitzvos. We can determine how a person lives to understand what he deems important.
