Description

P.302. The danger of denying oneself normal physical needs for religious reasons. The effect can be that a person loses his yishuv hada'as. Instead acknowledge the needs of the body and utilize them in the right way. There is nothing wrong with a good meal and recreational activities to be healthy and to feel good, but it should not be excessive. What question does a serious Jew ask himself? If a person does not have peace of mind, his avoda is significantly more difficult. You have to be part of this world to give advice to people with problems in this world. It is important to obtain advice from people who understand life outside the Beis Medrash. Everything in life [even food!] can be used as a means to breaking down the barriers between us and Hashem. Regardless of whether the person is in the Beis Medrash or in front of a steak - everything has to remind him of Hashem; to have a relationship between the soul and the body; therefore we must not make believe that there is no "guf" and deny himself the normal pleasures of this world. Hashem wants the neshamah and the guf to talk to each other - the mistake is to teach our children that the body is our worst enemy.
