Description

Yocheved was born 'between the walls' of leaving the land of Israel and entering into Egypt. What does the birth of Yocheved symbolize? Being that Yocheved is the mother of redeemers, it is most appropriate that she was born at the very moment that exile began. All the blessings we receive require the seal of zos (8th day of) Chanukah. The glory of Hashem is concealed and He does not give Himself over to any other nation. Yocheved's modesty emulates Hashem's concealment. Amalek has power in the month of Teves. The tragedies that occur in Teves are a result of our immodesty and lack of protection over that which is holy and precious.
