Description
Based on an essay by Rav Elia Weintraub - Einei Yisrael. [This shiur is the third of a "trilogy." The first two shiurim are: "HAZZ066320120913 - Back To The Source, The King, Right Now" and "HAZZ066420120920 Yom Kippur - First Get To The Truth, Then Tackle The Sins."
The mitzvah (commandment) of simchah (joy) applies to all the holidays - what is different about Succos in that Hashem promises the certainty of Succos? Rejecting the Esav of our lives at Ne'ilah. On Yom Kippur, there exists a communal obligation to repent, in addition to the personal obligation. In the end, we are guaranteed to return to Hashem, the question is what will our path be? After Yom Kippur we are finally freed of the "guf" (body) and we can promise and guarantee Hashem that we will be better this coming year. What maintain's a person's status of "Jewishness?" The unbreakable covenant with the Avos. The Avos can be found in the tekios (shofar blasts), in the shalosh regalim (three pilgrimage festivals) and the Ushpizin (exalted guests) of Succos.
