Description
Based on a Sichah by Rav Tzvi Meir Zilbergerg; Sichos His'chaskus, sichah 8, 5771. Each person has his own way of preparing for Chanukah. During the week before Chanukah it is especially important and beneficial to learn with great dilligence and discipline, every person according to his/her level and ability; while we are learning, focus and don't be distracted. The entire night of Yaakov - the night of his dream - was about Chanukah. The merrit and great potential of increased and intense davening (praying) and saying Tehillim (Psalms); especially for Hashem to take us out of the muck we're stuck in. This will enable us to have better kavanah (intention and concentration) during candle lighting - and then sit, watching the candles without being connected to any electronic devices. Our tefilos (prayers) next to the Chanukah candles can accomplish the greatest things. Attaching ourselves to the quality of greatness, which we inherit from Avraham Avinu. We must daven to Hashem to protect us from katnus (being small-minded) and rise above silliness and petty disagreements.
