Yom Kippur is the most awesome day of the year, as a result of the emergence and radiance of the pnimius (inner reality) in all three dimensions of existence - olam, shanah, nefesh (place, time, soul). Only when Am Yisrael was unified would the Kohen Gadol be able to include all Jews within him and be able to enter and exit the Kodesh HaKodashim (Holy of Holies). The natural instinct of a Jew is to fast on Yom Kippur. How is it possible for Yom Kippur to cleanse a person without the person having to do teshuvah? Yom Kippur is higher than the choices we make, higher than the malachim (angels), and it naturally erases our aveiros (sins). We are the ones who are able to facilitate the revelation of pnimius on Yom Kippur.
