Description

What determines Zemanei Kriat Shema? Is it the universal definitions of yom and Layla? Or is there a unique definiton that applies to Kriat Shema only, i.e. Ubeshachbecha Uvekumecha? We will analyze the Rashba and establish two definitions that operate simultaneously, one for the Chiyuv, the other for the Kiyum. In the second part of the shiur we will address the question: does the Halacha recognize chatzi shiur be'mitzvot? This is relevant to the Rambam who defines Kriat Shema as a single mitzva made up of two 'kriot', one at night and one by day, would each recitation constitute merely half a mitzva? What is the relationship between chatzi shiur in Issurim & chatzi shiur beMitzvot?
