Description

In this shiur for Berachot 2a & 13b, we will analyze the concept Kavanas HaLev in kriat Shema and how it applies to the first pasuk (Shema Yisrael) and to the balance of the three parshiyot. Why does kavana play such a central role in this mitzva? Why is the principle of Shome'ah Keona inapplicable to the recitation of the Shema? In all mitzvot of Kriah & dibbur one can recite on behalf of another. The exceptions are Shema & Tefillah. But why? The Rambam has the possibility of fulfilling these mitzvot when the Shaliach Tzibbur recites Shema or Tefilla in the presence of ten men. How does that work? Why soes the Rambam require that the Shomeah respond with Amen, a requirement that does not apply to general Shome'ah Ke'one?
