Description

A careful reading of the Rambam indicates that the requirement to read the Shema before Chatzos defines the Zeman of the Mitzva. It is logical that the Chachamim could maintain that after Chatzos is not a cheftza shel Shema. In contrast, the Halacha of reading before one eats is not a Halacha in Zeman that would define the very entity (cheftza) of Shema, but rather a Halacha in the Kiyum HaGavra requiring the Gavra to recite the Shema before he eats. The cheftza shel Shema is not effected by the act of eating. We will study the question of one who began eating must he interrupt for K"S? And what if he began eating before the Zeman of K"S? Would he be allowed to begin other activities before K"S?
