Description
In this Halacha shiur for Pesach we will study the Halacha of 'kimcha de'pischa' otherwise known as Ma'os Chittin. Our goal is to study the sources for this Halacha beginning with the Ramah, going back to the Or Zarua, and tracing the first source back as early as the Yerushalmi. What is the status of this Halacha? Are we dealing with a 'minhag', or a more compulsory 'tax' (מס)? If the latter, we might exempt Torah Scholars. Are we dealing with a Mitzva of Tzedaka, and if so one can deduct Ma'os Chittin from his annual Ma'aser Kesafim. Can we compel an individual to contribute for this Halacha? Are we obligated to supply the poor with Matzot for the Chag or all their holiday needs? Why do we find this Halacho only on the Chag of Pesach?
