Why does Rav Huna single out the study of Mikrah for the requirement of Birchas HaTorah? Why does R' Elazer expand the beracha to include Midrash? R' Yochanan, Mishna? And finally Rava, Talmud? We will investigate the unique status of the public reading of the Torah; the special mitzva of קריאה - reading without comprehension - with regard to Mikrah. Is there a relationship between Midrash & Mikrah? Between Mishna & הוראת הלכה? Did Rava deviate from all of his predecessors regarding the nature of birchas HaTorah? Within the context of Mitzvas Talmud Torah is there a significance to pronouncing the words properly? From the perspective of Birchas HaMitzvos is there a difference between קריאה - as a Maaseh Mitzva - and הבנה - as a קיום שבלב?
