The sugya in Masechet Chulin 112a & the Shulchan Aruch in Yoreh Deah siman #96, address the status of a דבר חריף, e.g. an onion or a radish, regarding the principle of נ"ט בר נ"ט. One slices an onion with a meaty knife, can he eat this onion with milk? This is a controversy between the Pri Chadash and the Mechaber, a controversy that depends upon two Leshonos of Rashi. We willstudy the q' of the Taz who finds a contradiction in the Mechaber as to whether this חומרא of דבר חריף applies even to a knife which hasn't been used in the last 24 hours. The Pri Megadim resolves this contradiction. We will study two debates: 1) Does the דבר חריף have the power to transmit a טעם ראשון to a grinder? 2) Would the טעם pass on from one food to another?
