Description
In this study of Chulin 111b we will analyze the Taz & the Pri Megadim re: the contradiction of the Shulchan Aruch between simanim 96:1 & 103:3. The issue is the following: does a דבר חריף transform a טעם פגום in a כלי שאינו בן יומו into a טעם לשבח? The Mechaber in 103 establishes that this power of the Davar Charif expresses itself in the Issur that applies to a utensil of Issur - an אינו בן יומו - in which an onion was cooked. The onion is not kosher because of the power of the onion. In contrast, in siman 96, in the case of cutting an onion with a meaty knife, the Issur of eating the onion with milk only applies to a knife which is a בן יומו. Why doesn't the חריפות of the onion convert the טעם פגום into a טעם לשבח? The פר"מ reconciles.
