Description

For the sugya in Masechet Chulin 99b-110a, our goal is the defining of the concept בריה, and why it is not בטל. We will study the various conditions that must be fulfilled in order to qualify as a 'birya' as formulated by the Ramban & the Shulchan Aruch. We will study the insights of the Taz, and raise the question: what is the difference between Gid HaNashe which is a 'birya', and Neveyla which is not. It would seem that in both cases once we cut the gid or the neveyla the 'shem' is lost; it becomes a mere חתיכה and forfeits its name. The Rosh offers a cryptic answer to this dilemma, we will try to reveal his intention.
