Description
In two places in Chulin the gemara quotes Shmuel who formulates the principle of כבוש כמבושל with regard to the soaking of a solid in a liquid or the liquid in a barrel. This shiur is meant to serve asw an introduction to the sugya. We will raise a number of q's: how long must the soaking last before the בליעה takes place? Is the בליעה a gradual process? Must the soaking be contiuous? How can the בליעה be removes, i.e. what method of Hechsher can serve to remove the absorbed taste? Is the analogy between soaking & cooking relevant only to the result, or even to the action itself? Can הגעלה serve as an alternative method of Hechsher? What is the status of an earthenware utensil in this regard? What if there was an occasional use with heat?
