Description

On Feb 26th, 2015 we began our study of the unique nature of Ta'anit Esther. You can find that shiur on this site. Today we will study an essay from the Sefer Shalmei Todah re: this fast. Based on a careful reading of the Rambam we will learn that whereas the 4 Ta'aniyot were established ע"י חכמנו as תעניות של צרה, i.e. re-experiencing calamity & anguish, Esther is a a fast משום זכר, i.e. a remembrance of the fast at the time of Mordechai & Esther. As such many of the Halachot that apply to the other 4 Ta'aniyot do not apply to the fast of Esther. On Esther those who suffer from fasting, חולה מעוברת מנקת, are alleviated from the obligation to fast. The same will apply to חתן ובני הברית. No Issur קלות ראש applies. No עננו. No נשיאת כפיים.
