Description

For the sugya in Masechet Kiddushin 15b-16b, we will continue our study of the laws of Eved Ivri & his redemption. We begin with Rebby: there is no freedom with 6 years if the Eved is owned by a non-Jew. There are 3 methods by which monies can be paid to the owner before the termination of the Avdus serve a a פדייה. Either his relatives pay, or the Eved himself pays, or others pay. In these three cases, does the Eved go free? Clearly if the Eved redeems himself, yes, but what if others pay on his behalf? We will study the controversy between Rebby Yossi & Rebby Akiva. In the second half of the shiur we will try to derive קנין שטר in the cases of Eved & Amah. This will lead to the q' of the possibility of a קנין חזקה in the case of Eved.
