We are studying Masechet Kiddushin 19b-20b, the laws of גרעון כסף, the payment of the Eved to his Master to free himself before the end of his 6-year term. Does the Eved pay the pro-rated price per annum based on the market price at the time of the מכירה or based on the current market price of the Eved today at the moment of the redemption? This is a tw0-fold question since the value of the Eved pay have gone up or down. The answer to this question depends upon the Torah's sympathy for the Eved, demonstrated by the Halachik responsibilities of the master vis-a-vis the Eved to provide the latter with all the best. We will discuss the violation of שביעית which brought the Divine punishment of servitude upon the Eved.
