Description

We begin our study of Masechet Ketuvot 14b: the Mishna of R' Yochanan ben Nuri. We will focus on the definition of Rov. A girl had an unfortunate incident and now we need to answer the question: can she marry a Kohen? Was the attacker someone who disqualifies her to Kehuna by his ביאה? We wish to study the insight of R' Akiva Eiger on this Mishna. What if there is a majority of 51 Kesheirim against 50 Pesulim, but one of the 51 is a kohen who seeks to marry this girl and knows that he was not the בועל? From his perspective he sees a Safek of 50-50 without a Rov. The counter view of the Rashash will lead us to a fundamental analysis of the Halachic 'Rov' and is Rov a statistical probability?
