Description

The Mishna in Masechet Bava Kamma 92a continues discussion the subject of חבלה (inflicting injury) but not from the monetary perspective of compensating for damages, but rather from the ethical dimension of injuring someone, i.e. how to achieve atonement for the sin of injuring someone. The bulk of the Daf presents a series of commonly used phrases: how shall we analyze these various popular idiomatic expressions in the light of Torah values. The Gemorah seeks not only the meaning of the ethical messages inherent in these colloquialisms, but also Scriptural sources for these principles. This will require taking a 2nd look at the episode of Avraham & Avimelech as well as many other Parshiot in Tanach.
