Description
Our sugya in Masechet Bava Matzia 57a addresses our Mishna that establishes that there is no oath to be taken on Hekdesh if there is litigation over the loss of Hekdesh owned by Hashem. The focus of our study is a Mishna is Shekalim which discusses coins of Hekdesh - Shekalim - that were lost or stolen before the שליח was able to deliver these coins to the Mikdash. Who suffers the loss in this case? It depends: if the donors found out about the loss before the monies of the Lishka were separated (as they were thrice annually), then Hekdesh suffers the loss. If the donors were notified before the הפרשה, then the donors take the loss & must replace their Shekalim with a 2nd set of coins. In any even the שליח must take the oath. but why?
