Description

For Masechet Bava Kamma 114a we begin by offering an overview of the laws that govern tax collectors. Can the מוכס collect a double tax from one Jew and place the responsibility on that Jew's shoulders to force the other Jew to reimburse him? Can the tax collector confiscate a collateral from one of the city citizens to compel that citizen to collect monies from those members of the community who "flew the coupe" to avoid taxes? We will begin the new Mishna and investigate the question: is there an assumption of ייאוש when a person was victimized by a thief who stole his money?
