Description

Masechet Sanhedrin 5b: reconciling Shmuel with the Mishna on 29a. Whereas Shmuel validates a decision of two Judges, the Mishna states that if one of the three Judges says "I don't know", he must be replaced by another דיין. Two Judges simple won't do! The sugya reconciles this apparent contradiction by formulating a new regulation: the case must be decided by the exact number of Judges who sat when the case began.
