Beginning with Rav Velvel Soloveitchik's letter, many halachos (in Shechita, Ma'achalaos Asuros and Avos ha-Tumah) all reflect the end of Ma'achalos Asuros 4:17 - טריפה תחילת נבילה. This in turn may all be sourced in the logic which subtly appears at the beginning of our sugya (Chullin 9a) of bedikas simanim be-diavad.
