Description

Erev Yom Kippur, 1942. Rav Oshry received an urgent shaila from the director of the hospital in the Kovno ghetto. Numerous patients were insisting that they were going to fast on Yom Kippur, despite the doctors’ warnings that their condition and the limited nutrition in the hospital would cause danger to their lives. Even patients who generally were not observant were adamant that they wanted to fast. The director asked Rav Oshry for his Psak and requested that he speak to the patients in regard to this pressing and timely question.
