Description
The 8th of Marcheshvan, 5702 (October 29, 1941) was remembered by the residents of the Kovno ghetto as “the Black Day”. All thirty thousand residents were ordered to gather in one open area, and it appeared clear that many would be murdered. A resident of Warsaw approached Rav Oshry and inquired, Halacha li’maaseh, what is the text of the Bracha said before one gives up one’s life to sanctify Hashem’s Name?
Three days later, after the Nazis had sent ten thousand Jews to their deaths, another question was posed to Rav Oshry: given that these Jews had died Al Kiddush Hashem, was it necessary to say Kaddish on behalf of their neshamos?
