Description

On Rosh Chodesh Nisan, 5702 (March 19, 1942), Rav Oshry was asked if one could acquire documentation indicating that one had converted to Christianity, would would allow the individual to flee to the forest and fight with the partisans. A related question: following the war, an individual shared with Rav Oshry that he had acquired forged papers identifying him and his family as non-Jews in case they would be caught by the Nazis. While he never used the papers, he wondered if he might have the status of an individual who abandoned the Jewish faith, which would require certain steps of Teshuva.
