Description

A 16 year old Kohein, an only child, witnessed his parents being murdered by the Germans. The family maid protected the traumatized boy by giving him over to the care of a priest, and he found safety in the church. Tormented by guilt, he turned his back on the church and returned to the Kovno ghetto, joining the Jews who suffered and faced the possibility of death on a daily basis. Rav Oshry was asked: could this boy fulfill the Mitzva of Nesias Kapayim despite the fact that he had identified with another religion for a period of time? Could he receive the first Aliya?
