Description
In the shadow of the destruction, at the end of the first century, the future of Hag haPesach was as yet undetermined; would it be maintained as if nothing had changed? Would it lose its powerful grip on Jewish commitment to history and destiny due to the absence of the Korban Pesach? It seems that two different approaches emerged in that first generation - best seen by contrasting the story of the sages in B'nei Brak with that of Rabban Gamliel and the elders in Lod. We then chart these two themes throughout the Haggadah, identifying those phrases and expressions which seem to belong to each approach and finding the harmony between two competing narratives.
