We will conclude the sugya of Masechet Bava Metzia 22b: A mark that will be erased סימן העשוי לידרס. We cannot be sure one way or the other if the owner would hold out with hope & optimism, or would despair over the possibility of offering a Siman to establish his ownership. Assuming סימנים דאורייתא, we must take the stricter position and assume that the Siman is valid & reliable, hence the finder must announce the find. Not so if סימנים דרבנן. The case of the next Mishna ככרות של בעה"ב where the finder must return the loaf even in a public area. Whereas Rava would assume that the loaf has no mark the location is a Siman, Raba will have to assume that no one will pounce upon & erase the Siman.
