Description

Our sugya in Masechet Bava Matzia 53b-54b addresses, in detail, the laws that govern חילול פרות מעשר שני & the חומש which the Torah requires to add to the value of the Ma'aser. In the first part of this shiur we will continue our study of the status of Ma'ase Sheni that fell into a Ta'aroves. The law of ביטול ברוב applies because there is no possibility of חילול. This relates to Ma'aser that was brought into Yerushalayim and subsequently taken out of Yerushalayim. Once the walls of Yerushalayim absorbed the produce & generated a Mitzvas Achila, חילול becomes impossible; hence; Bittul applies. We will see that this exclusion of חילול is Rabbinic in nature & does not always apply. What about Ma'aser which is worth less than a פרוטה?
